A bioenergy research prospectus for Southern Africa
We are pleased to present the report based around a workshop funded by the British Council which was held in South Africa in September 2014. The workshop was organized by Dr Patricia Thornley of Aston University and Prof. Emile van Zyl of the University of Stellenbosch. Expert mentors included Prof. Jim Lynch (emeritus Surrey), Prof. Johann Gorgens (Stellenbosch), Prof. Tim Benton (Leeds) and Mr Nico Stolz (TSB). A full list of participants is given in Appendix A at the back of the report.
During the workshop, participants were split into groups and challenged to develop sustainable visions of integrated food-fuel futures in the southern African Development Community which is committed to ensuring the well-being of the region by ensuring that low income residents have access to energy and increasing regional energy self sufficiency and self sustainment.
