Extraordinary flexible funding awarded to Parimala Shivaprasad, University of Nottingham
We are delighted to announce Parimala Shivaprasad from the University of Nottingham as the recipient of our extraordinary flexible funding award.
The funding call was launched to provide a specific capability and activity within the Supergen Bioenergy Hub, focused on an identified gap around bio-based chemicals and materials.
Parimala will join the core project team, delivering a work package focused on valorising the UK’s horticulture waste to produce bio-based ingredients for the chemicals sector.
Parimala is Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham where her research is focused on developing pathways to transform agricultural waste into high-value chemicals to replace the existing petroleum-based feedstock for the fine chemical industry. This involves the use of green catalysts like enzymes and whole cells in combination with resource efficient reactor technologies like the spinning mesh disc reactor and micro channel flow reactors to improve the sustainability of the process. Research also incorporates techno-economic feasibility studies to facilitate technology transfer into the commercial sector.
