Online workshop: Managing your next steps as an early career researcher
8 October 2024, online
With invited speakers and opportunities to engage in group activites, this online workshop is designed to better equip early career researchers to take your next career steps.
This online workshop organised by the SHARE Network (the Supergen Bioenergy Hub’s network for early career researchers) is focused on the next steps you might be considering for your career. Across the two sessions (participants are free to attend either one or both), we will focus on developing your career and reflect on the impact that career transitions can have on your personal life. Whether you are a PhD researcher thinking about life beyond your PhD, coming to the end of a postdoctoral position, or considering a new challenge outside of your current area, this session will provide you with the skills to make it happen.
Session 1: Career development and next steps (1.5hrs) 10:00am-11:30am

We will be weighing up the pros and cons of working in industry, academia or policy, and how to tailor your CV to suit your chosen career path. Speakers from industry, policy and academia will share their top tips for success during this session. You will also have the chance to consider your own career path and get advice on how to look for new opportunities.

During this session, you will have the opportunity to discuss your own experiences of research life with fellow ECRs in a safe space, and design your own toolkit of supportive resources, techniques and strategies.
