Gasification integration

Objectives

To improve the integration of gasification systems with downstream applications such as conversion to electricity or upgrading to biofuels.

Method

It is intended to first build practical experience by seconding university research staff to an existing biomass gasification plant. A workshop will then be held with key project partners and external invitees to share knowledge on gas conditioning and gasification integration. Viable gasification process concepts will be scoped and key uncertainties identified – these will be addressed through practical work at Newcastle.

Newcastle will then pursue the outline scope of an engineering design for a viable system. This will subsequently be presented at a detailed technical workshop for partners and adjusted in accordance with relevant feedback to provide a basis for progressing this concept in a separate project for an engineering feasibility study.
